Coach Charlie Grimes
Charles Grimes serves
Malone College as Assistant Professor of Health and Human
Performance, and as Head Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Coach.
Prior to employment at Malone, Charles worked as adjunct lecturer
and Assistant Track Coach at Eastern Michigan University, as well as
a Research Associate in the Division of Kinesiology at the
University of Michigan.
He received his B.S. from
Western Michigan University in Sports Science, as well as his M.S.
degree in Exercise Physiology from Eastern Michigan University. He
was a Four time All Mid-American Conference place winner in the
Decathlon event in Track and Field as an undergraduate. He also was
awarded several Academic all conference awards.
Charles holds memberships
in the ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine), as well as the
USATF (United Stated Track and Field) and USTCA (United States Track
Coaches Association). He serves as the North Regional Chairman for
the Decathlon Development committee of USATF, and is the NAIA Track
Coaches Educational Chairman for the USTCA. He has served as a
clinic lecturer for several state high school coaches meetings, and
served as a staff coach at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in Chula
Vista, CA. in the summer of 2000.
His professional work has been centered around the creation of a newly patented track and field training aid for jumpers and sprinters called the “LauchPad”. Other more current work has resulted in a brand new weight training apparatus called the “Equalizer”. His most current project involves the development of a “character development” handbook for coaches, as well as small group studies for athletes. His work has resulted in the creation of the C.R.G. Athletics Corporation, which markets and sells his inventions. Committed to sound training both physically and spiritually, Coach also leads worship at Living Hope Church (C&MA) in East Canton, OH. He and his wife, Wendy and three daughters, Shannon, Katie, and Leah live just a short walk from campus in Canton, OH.
